Paris, food, romance... what's not to love? Happy publication week to @karinamaywrite who joined me in The Hot Seat to chat about her highly anticipated new release, Duck a l’Orange for Breakfast, and she shares the personal story that influenced her main character's unexpected predicament. You can catch our chat on my YouTube channel via link in bio. 🦆 When my kid takes photos, the whole world looks different. All the angles, all the light, all the focus. I’m sure there’s some kind of deep wisdom in this but because I am an overstretched adult, I can’t put all those pieces together in a nice quotable meme right now. 😊 Look at what arrived in the mail for me! I just thought I might read a wee bit before heading off to do some work but have been lying here for over an hour now. @kaykerr_ newest non-fiction book is out tomorrow! Go grab yourself a copy as we follow five Autistic people’s journey through love. You won’t be disappointed! Congratulations, Kay! So happy for you 💗 My hubby, the camel whispering, camel kissing, camel tragic. Apparently, this camel doesn’t like anyone… except Alwyn. The first of the week-long birthday celebrations. We love you and your delightfully different different-ness. 💗💗💗💗 🐪🐪🐪🐪🐪🐪🐪🐪 Late night book stock signing is a family affair. Box lifters, tape-dispenser-wranglers, photographers, animal wranglers… with thanks to U2 and Taylor Swift for keeping my eyes open. A boatload of love went into these books and you can get your signed copy from @booktopiabooks 👏💗 My absolute happy place and always was. But for many reasons, it’s been far too long between rides (many years). Long enough that I was nervous (especially as this was a horse I didn’t know). But muscle memory is incredible. I might not have the strength or flexibility I once did but all the neural pathways are carved in so deeply they cannot be erased. Thousands of hours in the saddle are still there, lying in my nerves, my muscles, my bones, my soul. Just waiting to ignite. 🔥 Get a jump start on @antheahodgson new book, The War Nurses, which was inspired by her own family’s history. We took a deep dive into this story and at one point we both ended up crying! But don’t worry, we also laughed a lot too. (And make sure you stay till the end to hear about what she’s working on next!) You can pre-order Anthea’s newest novel right now from your favourite bookstore, online or in person, to make sure you don’t miss out. You catch our chat via link in bio. An unboxing of the first of the final copies of The Wonderful Thing About Phoenix Rose. 😭🥰 I had to chop a bit off the beginning for Instagram because I am a very wordy person and cannot keep my excitement to 90 seconds! Thank you so much to @kathy.lette for your generous quotes for Phoenix ❤️ And importantly, thank you to @nikkitownsenddesign for the gorgeous cover. I love it so much. Happy St Patrick’s Day. 🇮🇪 I’ve been doing that mid-life thing of delving into my ancestral tree and although I knew it was predominantly Irish on both sides, I really hadn’t appreciated just how MUCH. And also just how much they struggled. Huge families. Labourers, blacksmiths, servants, tiny towns, no support. I’ve been pulling up birth certificates, marriage certificates, death certificates. George and Margaret lived in Murphy St in Ipswich (in “Irish Town”). Margaret Mulcahy had at least five children and died at 36. Mary Agnus had at least 4 kids and died at 32 (and it was clearly a tragic life). Hanorah had 9 kids, lost her husband and continued to run the Spring Hill Hotel in Toowoomba by herself (now The Royal).
